SSPX goes ahead: ordains three men in Germany, despite threat of excommunication

(Tridentine South Africa; c.f. BBC World News (Secular; Governmental; British) 27 / 06 | June / 2009; Vatican information Service V.I.S 17 / 06 | June / 2009 ; Archive: 18 / 06 | June / 2009; Rorate Caeli (Catholic; Independent; Unknown; Traditionalist) 27 / 06 | June / 2009: http://rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2009/06/events_27.html)

Article by Marc Aupiais

According to the BBC, the SSPX / FSSPX (Fraternal Society of Saint Pius X), has gone ahead with three (3) ordinations, in Zaitzkofen, Bavaria, Germany. This despite the threat of excommunication, and Vatican opposition, and condemnation.

They ordained a Swiss (A man from Switzerland), a Pole (a man from Poland) and a Swede (a man from Sweden). The BBC had previously reported that the SSPX would ordain 30 men in June, however, this likely includes the additional ordination of priests (and possibly includes those planned of deacons) in America, and Switzerland, which the BBC, among other sources had noted to still be planned, by the SSPX. The SSPX's seminary's rector: cited the shortage of priests in Europe, as a reason to disobey the German and Vatican Church Authorities.

The German diocese in charge of the area, Regensburg, had said that the SSPX bishop, and three priests being in their view: illicitly, but validly (sacramentally) ordained: would likely incur excommunication.

The Catholic Bishop in charge of the Regensburg Diocese, which had noted possible excommunication, is Bishop Gerhard Müller.

The FSSPX/SSPX Bishop, who defied the Vatican, in addition to the applicable German diocese mentioned above, was reported prior the time to be SSPX Bishop Alfonso de Galaretta. Rorate Caeli, have an article about Bishop Athanasius Schneider ordaining 5 FSSP priests in the same area, however, this was an FSSP ordination, and the licit ordination of 5 FSSP has no relation to the Bavaria Ordinations of the 3 SSPX priests.

According to the Vatican (c.f. Vatican information Service V.I.S. 17 / 06 | June / 2009 ), who commented on the situation before the ordinations: the SSPX bishops and priests, while validly (Sacramentally) ordained, hold no legitimate (licit) authority in the church, and the ordinations, would be illicit (illegal).
